About the Study
Mawu M'Chichewa is part of a University of Malawi research study to develop computer tools that can understand and write Chichewa speech. Your voice will help the research team develop and test these tools using different Chichewa voices, accents and ways of speaking.
Participation
You must be 18 years or older and speak Chichewa to participate. You will be asked to read sentences or prompts shown on the screen and/or answer simple questions by voice. You will also provide basic information such as your age range, gender, district and first language. Participation is voluntary, and you can skip any question or stop participating at any time.
Privacy and Use of Your Information
We will collect your voice recordings, the basic information you provide, and limited technical information needed to operate the platform. Your information will be used only for research to develop, train and test Chichewa speech and language technologies. It will not be sold or used for advertising.
Your recordings will be identified using a code rather than your name and stored securely. Your identity will be kept confidential, and research results will not identify you.
Please do not include your name, phone number, address or other identifying information in your recordings.
Withdrawal
You can withdraw from the study at any time without giving a reason by using the "Withdraw" option in your account. We will delete your recordings and personal information that can still be linked to you. Information that has already been anonymised or included in a shared or published dataset may not be possible to remove.
